Privacy Policy

Effective Date February 2, 2015:

We collect certain information through our website, located at letstalkschools.com (our “Site”). This page (this “Privacy Policy”) lays out our policies and procedures surrounding the collection and handling of any such information that identifies an individual user or that could be used to contact or locate him or her (“Personally Identifiable Information” or “PII”).

This Privacy Policy applies only to our Site. It does not apply to any third party site or service linked to our Site or recommended or referred by our Website or by our staff. It also does not apply to any other website or online service operated by our company or to any of our offline activities.

  1. PII We Collect

We may store the information you submit to or through the Site, as well as information in connection with the use of the Site. We may collect this information through a website or a mobile application. By using the Let's Talk Schools, LLC’s service (the “Service”), you are authorizing us to gather, parse and retain data related to the provision of the Service. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways other than as disclosed in this statement.

We use your Personally Identifiable Information to create your account, to communicate with you about products and services you’ve purchased, to offer you additional products and services and to bill you. We also use that information to the extent necessary to enforce our Website terms of service and to prevent imminent harm to persons or property.

1.1 Registration Information

If you create an account on Let's Talk Schools, LLC (“LTS”), we may store and use your full name, email address, zip code and other information you may provide with your account, such as your gender and birth date. Your User Name will be publicly displayed as part of your account profile.

You may choose to log in, create an account or enhance your profile at letstalkschools.com through the Facebook Connect feature on the Site. By doing this, you are asking Facebook to send us certain information from your Facebook profile, and you authorize us to collect, store, and use in accordance with this Privacy Policy any and all information available to us through the Facebook interface. After you have connected, Facebook also sends us additional information from your profile that allows us to display a Facebook module on the pages you view. You can also connect to your LTS account to your accounts on third party services like Twitter, in which case we may collect and store information identifying your account with the third party service. We use the information to help you connect and share public content with your friends and followers.

If you feel that an unauthorized account has been created depicting you or your likeness, you can request its removal by sending an email to info@letstalkschools.com.

1.2 Billing and Credit Card Information

To enable payment and donations, we collect and store name, address, telephone number, email address, credit card information and other billing information. This information may be shared with third parties who help to complete the purchase transaction. Examples of this include fulfilling orders and processing credit card and PayPal payments. When you submit credit card numbers, we encrypt that information using industry standard technology.

1.3 Other Information

We may collect non-personal information about the computer, mobile device or other device you use to access the LTS services, such as IP address, geolocation information, unique device identifiers, browser type, browser language and other transactional information to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movement and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

When you sign up for an account, you are opting in to receive emails from other LTS users, businesses, and LTS itself. If you exchange messages with others through the Site, we may store them in order to process and deliver them, allow you to manage them, and investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Site. If you send information from the Site to your phone via SMS text message, we may log your phone number, phone carrier, and the date and time that the message was processed. Carriers may charge recipients for texts that they receive.

1.4 User Generated Content and Public Activities

We offer you opportunities to engage in public activities on letstalkschools.com and other LTS services. "Public activities" are any actions you take on the Site that are designed to be visible to other users, including comments, recommendations, reader reviews, ratings or any other items that you submit. Any information you disclose in your public activities, along with your screen name or ID, or any image or photo, becomes public and may be used by LTS for online and offline promotional or commercial uses in any and all media. If you choose to engage in public activities, you should be aware that any personal information you submit can be read, collected and used by other users of these areas. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in the course of your public activities and we have no responsibility to publish, take down, remove or edit any of your public activities or submissions.

If you have registered for a LTS account, we will track and aggregate your public activities on LTS. By choosing to participate in public activities, you are electing to share and display such public activities via letstalkschools.com. Also, public activities may be included in RSS feeds, APIs and made available to other websites via other formats. As a result, your public activities may appear on other websites, blogs, or feeds. Keep in mind that we are not responsible for any personal information you choose to make public via your public activities, and you agree that such sharing will be deemed to have been done by you, not LTS.

When you share or recommend (with or without adding your own comments) any LTS articles or content to your Facebook profile, that action is governed by the Facebook Privacy Policy. We do not record those comments.

1.5 Cookies

We, and third parties with whom we partner, may use cookies, web beacons, local shared objects (sometimes called "flash cookies"), and similar technology in connection with your use of the Site and third party websites ("Cookies"). A cookie is a string of data our system sends to your computer and then uses to identify your computer when you return to our Website. Cookies give us usage data, like how often you visit, where you go at the site, and what you do.

We use cookies so that our Website can remember you and provide you with the information you’re most likely to need. For instance, when you return to our Website, cookies identify you and prompt the site to provide you username (not your password), so you can sign in more quickly. Cookies also allow our Website to remind you of your past purchases and to suggest similar products and services. We use information gained through cookies to compile statistical information about use of our Website, such as the time users spend at the site and the pages they visit most often.

It may be possible to disable some (but not all) Cookies through your device or browser settings, but doing so may affect your ability to use the Site. The method for disabling cookies may vary by device and browser, but can usually be found in preferences or security settings.

1.6 Third Parties

We use third-party vendors to provide services on the website, such as sending email messages to subscribers. The information that a user submits on the site will be provided to our vendor so that we may send LTS communications to users who have 'opted in' to receive them. We may share your email address with our partners to offer you programs and services we are jointly promoting. You may opt-out of these communications at any time. Please note, however, if such communications include a link to a vendor's website or a co-branded partner page and you submit personal information to such vendor's website or a co-branded partner page, then the privacy policies and practices of such vendor's website or a co-branded partner page governs the use of your personal information.

LTS also works with third-party media measurement services that enable advertisers, publishers and agencies to view audience reports for websites. They use certain data, including your IP address and information from cookies they place on your computer, to aggregate Internet activity to produce these reports and analyses.

LTS also works with third-party companies to serve ads when you visit letstalkschools.com. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to letstalkschools.com in order to provide advertisements on letstalkschols.com, other websites and other forms of media about goods and services that may be of interest to you.

  1. Links

This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that LTS is not responsible for the privacy practices of these other sites. We encourage our users to be aware of when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website.

  1. Newsletters

If a user wishes to subscribe to our newsletter or other email services, we may ask for contact information such as name and email address. This information is used to contact the user about the services on our site for which they have expressed interest. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (such as child's grade level or ZIP code) but encouraged so that we can provide more personalized service.

Users who no longer wish to receive our newsletters or other communications can unsubscribe using the tools provided in every email message we send or from the link on the site.

  1. User Surveys

From time to time, LTS may email our newsletter subscribers a request to complete user surveys and/or events that we believe are of interest. This may include promotions from a related third-party sponsor. Participation in these surveys is voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name, phone number, and address), and demographic information (such as ZIP code and child's grade level). Contact information may be used to notify winners and award prizes.

Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site. The information you provide in response to survey questions may be shared, but only in the aggregate or anonymously, with advertisers and partners, unless we notify you otherwise at the time of collection.

  1. Referring a Friend

You can invite your friends to join the Site by providing their contact information, or by allowing us to use your address book from your computer, mobile device, or other sites. If you invite a friend to join and connect with you on the Site, we may transmit your friend’s contact information to LTS long enough to process your requests.

  1. Protection and Security

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. Unfortunately, even with these measures, we cannot guarantee the security of PII. By using our Website, you acknowledge and agree that we make no such guarantee, and that you use our Website at your own risk.

If and when our registration/order form asks you to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or Social Security number), that information will be encrypted and protected with encryption software called SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of web browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to unlocked, or open.

While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to protect personal user information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) will be granted access to personally identifiable information. Furthermore, all employees are kept up to date on our security and privacy practices. The servers that are used to store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.

  1. Compromise of Security

In the event that personal information is compromised as a result of a breach of security, LTS will promptly notify those persons whose personal information has been compromised, in accordance with the notification procedures set forth in this Privacy Statement, or as otherwise required by applicable law.

  1. Login Security

When you choose a password, either as a principal for your Enhanced School Profile or as a parent to join a LTS community, the password is stored on the password-protected LTS server. However, because Internet communications are generally not secure, you should be aware that when you send your password across the Internet to us, there is a possibility that an experienced hacker could intercept your password. However, we have no evidence to date that password information presents a serious security threat to warrant using a secure shell for this transaction.

  1. More Information About Our Advertisers

LTS allows advertising by third parties. LTS does not control linking practices of advertisers or sponsors and does not monitor or claim responsibility for any content or privacy practices of such website. Once you have clicked on an advertisement and have left the LTS site, you must read the privacy policy of the advertiser or sponsor to see how your personal information will be handled.

LTS may offer contests, sweepstakes, and promotions that are sponsored by third-party advertisers or sponsors. These third parties may obtain personally identifiable information that visitors voluntarily submit to participate in the activity. LTS does not control the third parties' use of information.

LTS may use an advertising server developed by a third party to display ads on our site. Some of these ads may contain cookies that are set by third parties (advertisers, sponsors). In addition, we may allow third parties to place cookies or related tools on our site to collect data that may be used to serve advertisements elsewhere (i.e. on other websites). We do not have access to these cookies or other tools or any information that they contain. The LTS privacy policy does not cover any use of information that a third-party may have collected from you.

  1. Social Networking Links and Sites

We have partnered with Facebook to provide a more personalized experience on LTS for members of Facebook. When you visit LTS, you will see an option to sign in with Facebook. If you sign in with Facebook, we will show you which of your Facebook friends have connections to schools you may be considering based on their "likes" and education history. We also use Facebook's social sharing functions to make it easy for you to share schools and school reviews with your Facebook friends, and to comment on LTS articles. In order to provide you with this personalized experience, Facebook provides us with information that you have chosen to make available pursuant to your Facebook privacy settings. That information may include your basic information, email address, name, profile picture, your likes, location, schools you've attended (education history), friends list, and any other information you have chosen to make available. We also ask for your friends' likes and their education histories. We do not share this information with any third party.

If, at any time, you would like to turn off personalization on LTS, you can do so by logging out of Facebook. You can also disable the LTS app in the Your Apps section of the Facebook App Center. Please note that, if you have Facebook friends who are using Let's Talk Schools, LLC, they may also have shared information about you with us through Facebook. If you wish to prevent that sharing, you can do so by editing your Facebook privacy settings.

  1. Public Forums

LTS makes it possible for our users to share information through options such as school reviews, article feedback and message boards. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information. Consequently, you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.

  1. Children’s Privacy

LTS does not intend the Site and Services to be used by individuals under the age of 18 without the supervision of a parent or guardian 18 years of age or older. LTS relies upon parents or guardians 18 years of age or older to determine if the Site and Services is appropriate for the viewing, access, or participation by such individuals under the age of 18. If an individual under the age of 18 uses the Site and Services, such individual may only use the Site and Services under the supervision of a parent or guardian 18 years of age or older.

We do not seek or knowingly collect any PII about children under 13 years of age. If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected PII from a child under the age of 13, we will make reasonable efforts to delete such information from our database.

  1. Accessing and Correcting Your PII

You can access and change any Personally Identifiable Information we store through your “My Account” page.

  1. Data Retention and Account Termination

You can close your account by following this link. We will remove your public posts from view and/or dissociate them from your account profile, but we may retain information about you for the purposes authorized under this Privacy Policy unless prohibited by law.

  1. Compliance with Legal Process

We may disclose personal information if we are required to do so by law or we have a good faith belief that such action is necessary to (1) comply with the law or with legal process; (2) protect and defend our rights and property; (3) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of the Let's Talk Schools, LLC, services; or (4) protect the personal safety or property of our users or the public (among other things, this means that if you provide false information or attempt to pose as someone else, information about you may be disclosed as part of any investigation into your actions).

  1. Amendment of This Privacy Policy

We may change this Privacy Policy at any time by posting a new version of this page or an a successor page. The new version will become effective on the date it’s posted, which will be listed at the top of the page as the new Effective Date. You agree to review this policy periodically since such changes, modifications, additions or deletions shall be effective immediately upon posting and your subsequent use after such posting shall conclusively be deemed to be acceptance by you of such changes, modifications or deletions. By continuing to access or use the Website after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.

  1. Governing Law; Visitors Residing Outside the United States

This Privacy Policy and the privacy practices of LTS will be subject exclusively to the laws of New York State, without regard to its conflict of law principles. LTS makes no representation that this Privacy Policy and such practices comply with the laws of any country outside the United States.
